With the acquisition of the historic Henry Ford Home, the City of Fort Myers added three acres to the tour grounds of the adjacent thirteen acre Edison Estate. The desire to serve visitors on the estate grounds for public events of longer duration necessitated the provision of a public restroom between the historic homes. This small yet complex addition was built on the northeast side of the existing Ford Home garage. The location demanded a design that met ADA compliance & was architecturally compatible with the historic structures, existing roof shapes, building floor elevations, and · extensive vegetation and tree canopy. This structure was the first new construction to be built on the historic estate grounds in the past sixty years.
